Hey Nadeem. Thanks for finding me here. I'm excited, too.

The conference was good. Met a lot of heavyweights in the NP tech field - people I look up to. Learned quite a bit about how to better take stock of what my organization has and how to use it effectively. All in all, a great experience. I hope to bring some of what I learned to the Fellowship as well.

[...] I was rudely awakened three hours later by a whining noise in my ear. It was Anopheles gambiae, the dreaded little night-monster and carrier of plasmodium falciparum, better known as malaria. I slapped my ear and sat up with a start. Moonlight through the window illuminated a tiny, dried cake of blood on my forearm. I had been bit within my first few hours on the ground. The gravity of that bite was immediately apparent – back home in northern Illinois, mosquitoes are pests; in Kenya, they are doom-bringers. I consoled myself with the knowledge that I was on a doxycycline regimen and more than likely immune. Still, it reminded me of the dangers faced by our friends in the developing world, and the work that I will be doing for the next year with the Tony Blair Faith Foundation and Interfaith Youth Core.
San Jose: the airport is crazy, but not impossible. Good Thai food in Mountain View. Visit Museum of Technology. Like beer? Check out Gordon Biersch. Old school Italian - Original Joe's. New school, Il Fornaio. People drive like maniacs. There's a sizable Vietnamese community. The Fairmont hotel is extra cool, though expensive. Almost every building has a brand you'll recognize (Google, Yahoo, Cisco, etc.), and billboards are often written in tech. Take some time to come "over the hill" to Santa Cruz. You'll love it.
